Ride in Style on Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island

Imagine you and your family exploring Seabrook and Kiawah Island in an open-air, environmentally friendly, and fun to drive Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV). These sporty, battery-powered cars make it fun and convenient to explore our beautiful islands, go to the beach, and enjoy local dining and shopping at Freshfields Village and Bohicket Marina.

Island Electric Car Rentals located on Seabrook Island at the Lowcountry Executive Center is the premier local provider of LSV rentals (also known as neighborhood electric vehicles) for guests of Kiawah and Seabrook Island. Owners Martha and Barry are originally from New England but have spent the last 20 years in Florida.  Years ago on a family trip, they fell in love with the Charleston area and decided it was time to relocate. “We stumbled upon Seabrook and knew we had found a special place,” says Martha. “After building a house in 2012 and stepping down as an owner of an engineering business, we turned our attention to local environmental concerns which led us to the LSVs.”

LSVs differ from a traditional golf cart by way of advanced technology that allows the vehicles to achieve over 40 miles per charge with a top speed of 25mph, in line with Federal Low-Speed Vehicle requirements. The vehicle’s dashboard features a digital display that allows the driver to know exactly how many miles the vehicle can travel on the remaining charge, as well as the state of charge, and the electric motor efficiency.

They are also equipped with a USB port for cell phone charging and a carrier in the rear to transport beach toys and chairs, coolers, and umbrellas. According to Martha, their vehicles are in no way modified golf carts. “They are GEM® cars manufactured by Polaris, and made in America. They have been designed with comfort in mind, having a real suspension system and bucket seats.”

Island Electric Car Rentals currently has six LSVs on hand and plan on adding more to their fleet as the summer progresses.  They have two size models available which can comfortably transport 4 or 6 people. Since the summer is the busy season around Kiawah and Seabrook, they recommend making your reservations around the same time that you book your stay to increase the chance of availability. In the event that all vehicles are booked, reservations are made on a first come, first served basis. They keep a wait list and will contact you as LSVs become available.
