Your Ultimate Guide to the Best Kiawah Golf Courses
Although two Kiawah Island private golf courses, Cassique Course and The River Course, are reserved for Kiawah Island Club members, you will find plenty of exciting places to play at the following five public courses on the island.
1. The Ocean Course
Dubbed the No. 4 Public Golf Course in the U.S. and “America’s Toughest Course” by Golf Digest, The Ocean Course is the crown jewel of Kiawah Island golf. In fact, this Kiawah Island golf ocean course features more seaside holes than any other course in the Northern Hemisphere! It’s no wonder that it is a favorite among PGA professionals and amateur golfers alike. With challenging terrain and endless views of the Atlantic Ocean, you can expect a rewarding play every time. The Ocean Course is also recognized as the fourth course in the country to have hosted each of the PGA of America’s major championships. The next major golf event at Kiawah Island will be the 2021 PGA Championship at The Ocean Course, so start making your plans to attend now!
2. Cougar Point
Winding along the Kiawah River, Cougar Point just underwent a complete renovation in 2017 and offers some of the most dramatic vistas on the island. Recently named by the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association as “Golf Course of The Year,” Cougar Point is now better than ever before. The 18-hole course features amazing tidal creek and marsh views, fresh greens, tees, and fairways, laser-level tee boxes, rebuilt bunkers, and an updated irrigation system. Between the gorgeous backdrops and varied terrain, we guarantee that it will become your new favorite place to play.
3. Osprey Point
Like many of the Kiawah golf courses, Osprey Point is praised for its beautiful landscapes. As you golf, you will be surrounded by lush maritime forests, lagoons, and saltwater marshes. One thing that sets Osprey Point apart from the rest is that it is one of America’s Top 50 Courses for Women. Bring all of your girlfriends out for a fun day on this par-72 course, which was just renovated in 2014. It also boasts an excellent clubhouse and a restaurant that serves award-winning mac and cheese!
4. Turtle Point
If you’re looking for a course endorsed by the pros, look no further than Turtle Point Golf Course. Designed by one of greatest golfers of all time, Jack Nicklaus, Turtle Point is a great challenge for skilled golfers and offers an experience you won’t forget. The course features three gorgeous oceanfront holes, vibrant greens and fairways, lush forests, and calming lagoons. The course was one of Nicklaus’ first designs and is an example of classic golf course architecture at its finest. Not for beginners, this course invites skilled golfers to navigate minuscule greens, narrow fairways, and smartly placed water hazards. Like other Kiawah golf courses, Turtle Point was recently renovated in 2016.
5. Oak Point
Of all the Kiawah golf courses that have received recent upgrades, Oak Point has experienced the most significant renovations. The new and improved course, which was unveiled in 2015, now offers the same championship level of play that other courses on the island exhibit. With a rolling layout and picturesque scenery, you won’t find any other golf course that is quite like this. When you play at Oak Point, you can test your mental game along with your swing.
