Your Complete Guide to Night Heron Park
Take a deep breath and fill your lungs with fresh, ocean air! The smell of sweet Carolina jasmine floats in the wind, and Spanish moss drapes from the ancient oak trees. These are a few things that we love about Night Heron Park.
About Heron Park & Upcoming Renovations
Centrally located in East Beach Village, Night Heron Park offers 21 acres of greenspace with a soccer field, volleyball and basketball court, frisbee golf and playground for the kids. There's a nature center where the whole family can delve more deeply into the island's fascinating ecosystem and the lagoon features a picnic area and grilling facilities for more outdoor family fun! New additions and upgrades are coming to Night Heron Park in late Spring of 2022! These include a new nature center, fitness center, new market and upgraded pavilion.
Kiawah Island Nature Center
To make the most of your trip, remember to visit the Kiawah Island Nature Center.
You’ll find the Nature Center within the park, and it is the best place to learn more about Kiawah Island’s wildlife, flora, and fauna before you explore the 21-acre park.
Inside the building, interactive displays provide a fun, hands-on learning experience for children and adults alike! The Nature center will double in size in 2022!
During the warmer months, you can look forward to hundreds of quarter-size fiddler crabs sunbathing on the walking and biking trails.
Fiddler crabs are easily distinguished by the oversized claw of the male. As you approach them, they will scurry away. It is always a special treat to see!
Walking Paths & Bike Trails
With plenty of shade from the ancient oak trees, the trails at Night Heron Park are the perfect place to get your daily dose of exercise!
You’ll find more than 30 miles of biking and walking paths to explore throughout Kiawah Island. Bike rentals are available at the park, or you may bring your own bike.
Don't forget to check out the Naturally Kiawah Demonstration Garden as you stroll through the park. Relax, unwind and get some native plant inspo!
Night Heron Park Events
Take your visit to the next level by taking advantage of the park’s nature tours and programs. You can make reservations for a range of activities, including alligator tours, bird watching walks, butterfly tours, and more. After your excursion, conclude your trip at the Island Outpost where you’ll find Kiawah Island T-shirts, gifts, and souvenirs.
Kamp Kiawah is another exciting program offered at Night Heron Park. Under the direction of energetic camp counselors from across the country, little ones can enjoy arts and crafts, outdoor games, trips to the beach, time by the pool, and more. Full-day and half-day programs are available. This adventure camp is for children ages three to 15.
