What is the Alan Fleming Tennis Tournament?

The Seabrook Island Senior Tennis Tournament was founded by Alan Fleming, Sr. in 1981. Mr. Fleming was an avid tennis player and held number one rankings for his age group in both New Jersey and South Carolina. He retired to Seabrook Island, enjoying its quality tennis club, beautiful unspoiled beach, and welcoming community. Alan’s son, Peter Fleming, was a professional tennis player. He enjoyed great notoriety as the professional doubles playing partner of John McEnroe. Together, McEnroe and Fleming won seven major tennis titles and over 50 tour event doubles titles.

Players from around the Southeast United States and beyond will compete in several categories including singles, doubles and mixed doubles competitions. The event is highlighted by also raising funds for local charities. In over 37 years of hosting this nationally acclaimed event, the Alan Fleming Tennis Tournament has raised over $400,000. Even though the 2020 Alan Fleming Tournament was canceled due to the pandemic, the tournament still raised $45,000 for local charities.

This year's beneficiary is the Sea Islands Blessing Basket. This island nonprofit organization addresses food insecurity on the barrier islands. Through generous donations, and the valuable service of volunteers, SIHAF is able to offer food baskets to over 700 residents each month on Johns Island and Wadmalaw Island. See their exceptional efforts here.

Tournament players enjoy daily hospitality, a player’s cocktail reception, gift bags and a wonderful week of fun, fellowship and competition. Join us for this great fall tennis tradition on Seabrook Island.
