FAQ's to the Annual Charleston Marathon

Where Does the Course Take You?

The Charleston Marathon course encompasses many of the things that we love about Lowcountry living. The first few miles lead you along Charleston’s harbor. Then, the route winds along the peninsula and leads runners through the heart of downtown on King Street. Runners finish the race on the Cooper River at Riverfront Park.

For those who aren’t yet prepared to take on the full marathon, a half marathon and Shrimp and Grits 5K are also available! Each race finishes at Riverfront Park, only a few minutes away from the Park Circle area’s top restaurants and attractions.

What is the Weather Like?

The race takes place in January. You can expect chilly mornings and mild afternoons, with average temperatures ranging from the low 40s to the high 50s. In addition, the course is relatively flat with altitudes at or below sea level.

Is There A Post-Race Celebration?

The post-race celebration is one of the greatest aspects of the Charleston Marathon! Once you cross the finish line, you can look forward to plenty of great eats, live music, and fun for the entire family. Free shrimp and grits are available for all participants, and local beer and mimosas are available for participants over 21.
