The weather in Charleston SC in April is just warm enough but not too hot. Temperatures reach the 70s during the day and dip into the 60s and 50s at night. You’ll want to wear light layers, sunscreen, and apparel for all conditions. You might experience a rain shower or two, so come prepared, but you likely won’t be dealing with a lot of rain. The sun begins to shine down on Charleston in April, and the taste of summer is palpable.

April weather in Charleston is ideal for spending time outdoors, golfing, shopping, and strolling the beaches. While the water temperature is still a bit too cold for swimming, you can still get your feet wet along the shore.

  • Easter at Kiawah

Easter is late in 2022 on Sunday, April 17, and the Kiawah Island Golf Resort hosts numerous events for the entire family. Enjoy a classic Easter brunch with your family at Jasmine Porch, The Ocean Course, or Turtle Point, or grab your Easter Brunch to go to enjoy a picnic on the beach. If you’re planning on dining out for the holiday, be sure to reserve your table as soon as possible.

Little ones will not want to miss the Easter Egg Hunt & Toss at Night Heron Park. The Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 10:00 AM and doesn’t require reservations. The Egg Toss will begin after the conclusion of the hunt and the Easter Bunny will be in attendance and ready for photos! A Sand Sculpting Contest will also be taking place on Easter Sunday. This event invites the whole family to take part and prizes will be awarded to the most creative sculptures!

  • Easter at Seabrook Island

Easter on Seabrook Island is always a fun time!  This year's festivities include an Easter Egg Hunt on the front lawn at the Seabrook Island House across the street from the beach.  The fun starts at 1:00 pm on Easter Sunday.  Bring your Easter basket and collect some delicious treats.  No reservation is required to join in the fun.  Click here to see more.


  • Enjoy Top-Ranked Tennis

April is the perfect time to perfect your tennis game. The Roy Barth Tennis Center and the Seabrook Island Racquet Club are championship-level courts to practice. The Seabrook Island Racquet Club features 15 Har-Tru clay tennis courts and the newly renovated Roy Barth Tennis Center has 22 courts. If you’re looking for some pro tips, book a private lesson or a group clinic led by certified tennis professionals.


  • Go Horseback Riding on the Beach

Horseback riding is a favorite pastime for locals and travelers alike. Visit the Seabrook Island Equestrian Center, Middleton Place Equestrian Center, and the Mullet Hall Equestrian Center for expert guides and beautiful trails to explore. Horseback riding is for all ages and skill levels and is a fun and relaxing way to get outside.

Can't Miss Charleston Events in April 2022


Enjoy Cajun cuisine and creole food with a Lowcountry twist at this food festival. This event will take place on Saturday, April 9th from 12:00 – 6:00 PM at James Island County Park. Admission is just $15 per person (children ages 12 and under are free). The Low Country Cajun Festival is fun for the whole family, with live music, kid-friendly games, a crawfish-eating contest, and plenty of delicious Southern cuisine. Try authentic jambalaya or etouffee, or sample area delicacies like locally caught seafood or South Carolina barbecue.


Whether you’ll be running, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, the Cooper River Bridge Run is a fun time for all. The starting line for this famous race is in Mt. Pleasant on Coleman Boulevard. From there, participants cross the beautiful Ravenel Bridge before finishing in downtown Charleston. Once you’ve completed the race, it’s time to celebrate. The Finish Festival at Marion Square features live entertainment, food and drink, and local vendors. The 2022 Cooper River Bridge Run is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, 2022!


Every spring, Daniel Island hosts the largest women’s tennis tournament in the world. With over 90,000 spectators in attendance each year, this event attracts tennis fans from the Lowcountry and beyond! Formerly the Volvo Car Open, this year’s Credit One Charleston Open Tennis Tournament will be held from Saturday, April 2 through Sunday, April 10, 2022.


There’s no better time to check out Charleston's thriving jazz scene. The Charleston Jazz Festival runs April 21 - 24, 2022, offering a wide variety of jazz styles from Charleston's best talent, famous jazz legends and up and coming artists. Count on some swing, salsa, blues and more!


The annual Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park is a must-do during April in Charleston! This year, the event is on Sunday, April 24th, 2022. Your family will enjoy listening to live music and watching the boat parade.

If you’re searching for souvenirs, check out the craft show featuring local artisans. Plus, feast on plenty of local seafood. If you’re feeling competitive, try your hand at the shrimp-eating contest or the shag dance competition.


The Mullet Hall Trail Run is another fun race taking place in April. Head to Johns Island County Park on Saturday, April 23,2022. Runners can choose between either a 5k or 10k run. Afterward, celebrate and relax with food, cold drinks, and music!

Kiawah Island & Seabrook Island Events in April


New to Freshfields Village!  Julie from Doin' the Charleston is hosting this groovin' good time at the Lakeside Dock on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Whether you are new to the Shag or a pro it's a swaying good time.


Mark your calendar for the 3rd Saturday of each month in March, April, and May for Sidewalk Saturdays from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Spring is a good time to throw out the old and buy some new threads!  Retail therapy is always good for the soul.  Enjoy special sales and new merch for Spring.  Grab a bite to eat or a latte and stroll through the village. 


Saturday, April 16 at Freshfields Village.  Come on out and admire the chrome and nostalgia of some beautiful cars.  From Austin Healeys to big-block Camaros, and vintage Corvettes there are some real head turners!  Things rev up at 9:00 am!


The annual Blues by the Sea music festival typically takes place in April at Freshfields Village. This outdoor concert features a variety of blues acts. Best of all admission is free, though food and drink will be available for purchase. Bring your lawn chair to enjoy live outdoor music. The 2022 event will take place Sunday April 24th.


Head up to Faherty in Freshfields Village on Saturday, April 23, and celebrate the release of author Kerry Docherty's debut Somewhere Right Now.  Kerry is the co-founder of Faherty.  She will be meeting and greeting patrons.  Snacks and BEVs are available for enjoyment too.    3:00 to 5:00 pm.

Guests can meet the author and Faherty co-founder while enjoying lite bites and sips.


The Annual Kiawah Island Art & House typically takes place in April as a fundraiser to showcase the unique and beautiful architecture of Kiawah Island. During the tour, you’ll see five gorgeous Kiawah homes. Each property is distinct with its own unique art style and breathtaking views of the island. Tickets are $55, and you can enter a raffle to win a beautiful oil painting from a Charleston artist. Save the date this years Kiawah Island House and Art Tour on April 8, 2022!
