The weather in Charleston SC in April is just warm enough but not too hot. Temperatures reach the 70s during the day and dip into the 60s and 50s at night. You’ll want to bring light layers, sunscreen, and apparel for all conditions. You might experience a rain shower or two, so come prepared, but you likely won’t be dealing with a lot of rain. Easter at Kiawah
Easter in 2021 is Sunday, April 4, and Kiawah Island Golf Resort hosts numerous events for the entire family. Enjoy a classic Easter brunch with your family at Jasmine Porch, The Ocean Course, or Turtle Point, or grab your Easter Brunch to go to enjoy at your rental home. If you’re planning on dining out for the holiday, be sure to reserve your table as soon as possible.
After brunch, go on the Hippity-Hop Hunt around Night Heron Park. The Hippity-Hop Hunt can be done March 29-April 9 and it doesn’t require reservations. Grab your clue sheet at the Night Heron Pool Shop and Nature Center and venture out to find all the hidden bunnies, which will reveal a special code that you can redeem for a prize at the pool shop.
If the kids love going on an Easter egg hunt, you can get Easter Eggs To-Go to hide around the island, which is available from March 29 - April 4. You’ll get a list of hiding spots to get started and 15 assorted candy-filled or toy-filled Easter eggs for the kiddos to hunt.
Enjoy Top-Ranked Tennis
April is the perfect time to perfect your tennis game. The Roy Barth Tennis Center and the Seabrook Island Racquet Club are championship-level courts to practice. The Seabrook Island Racquet Club features 15 Har-Tru clay tennis courts and the newly renovated Roy Barth Tennis Center has 22 courts. If you’re looking for some pro tips, book a private lesson or a group clinic led by certified tennis professionals.
Go Horseback Riding on the Beach
Horseback riding is a favorite pastime for locals and travelers alike. Visit the Seabrook Island Equestrian Center, Middleton Place Equestrian Center, and the Mullet Hall Equestrian Center for expert guides and beautiful trails to explore. Horseback riding is for all ages and skill levels and is a fun and relaxing way to get outside.

Lowcountry Cajun Festival - Canceled for 2021
Enjoy Cajun cuisine with a Lowcountry twist at this food festival. This event takes place at James Island Country Park and is just $15 per person (children ages 12 and under are free). The Lowcountry Cajun Festival is fun for the whole family, with live music, kid-friendly games, a crawfish-eating contest, and plenty of delicious Southern cuisine. Try authentic jambalaya or etouffee, or sample area delicacies like locally caught seafood or South Carolina barbecue.
Cooper River Bridge Run - Postponed until September
Recently announced, the 2021 Cooper River Bridge Run is postponed to September amid ongoing Covid-19 concerns. Originally scheduled for March 27, it is now slated to take place September 25th, 2021 with hopes that large groups will be able to safely gather for the event.
Whether you’ll be running, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, the Cooper River Bridge Run is a fun time for all. The starting line for this famous race is in Mt. Pleasant on Coleman Boulevard. From there, participants cross the beautiful Ravenel Bridge before finishing in downtown Charleston. Once you’ve completed the race, it’s time to celebrate. The Finish Festival at Marion Square features live entertainment, food and drink, and local vendors.
Volvo Car Open
Just announced Feb 4, 2021: The 2021 Volvo Car Open will be played without spectators due to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Every spring, Daniel Island hosts the largest women’s tennis tournament in the world. This year’s Volvo Car Open (formerly known as the Family Circle Cup) will be held from Saturday, April 3 through Sunday, April 11, 2021.
Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival
If you have the opportunity to attend the annual Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park, then we suggest you do so. It’s the perfect chance to support the local fishing and shrimping industry. This year, the event is on Sunday, April 25. Your family will enjoy listening to live music and watching the boat parade. If you’re searching for souvenirs, check out the craft show featuring local artisans. Plus, feast on plenty of local seafood. If you’re feeling competitive, try your hand at the shrimp-eating contest or the shag dance competition.
Mullet Haul Trail Run
The Mullet Haul Trail Run is another fun race taking place in April. Head to Johns Island County Park on Saturday, April 24, for a 5k or 10k run. Afterward, relax with food, cold drinks, and music.

Blues by the Sea
The annual Blues by the Sea music festival typically takes place in April at the Freshfields Village. This outdoor concert features a variety of blues acts. Best of all, it’s pet-friendly and admission is free, though food and drink will be available for purchase. The 2021 event has not yet been scheduled, so check back for updated information regarding this festival.
Kiawah Island House and Art Tour - Postponed to April 8, 2022
The Annual Kiawah Island House and Art Tour typically takes place in April as a fundraiser to showcase the unique and beautiful architecture of Kiawah Island. During the tour, you’ll see five gorgeous Kiawah homes. Each property is distinct with its own unique art style and breathtaking views of the island. Bohicket Marina Dolphin Slam - Canceled
Anglers won’t want to miss out on the annual Bohicket Dolphin Slam Tournament. The competition takes place at Bohicket Marina. All participants get free dockage for their boat, and there is a $200 entry fee per boat. First place wins $2,400, which isn’t bad for a day’s work. The event is expected to be the best yet in 2022.
